Optics are the most important. I have seen absolutely great photos printed at 11X17 from a 2.0MP camera. More pixels do give you options when cropping/enlarging but if you frame the shot properly in the camera, that is not an issue. I prefer the SLR for that one reason above all others. I can see what the picture is really going to look like (framing and focus) before I shoot. Lastly, I have a D40X but what display can actually resolve the difference between 3 and 10 megapixels. I have not done the math but I think that a typical 19-20" monitor is out of resolution with about 4 megapixels. No current printers I am aware of can print above 1200-1600DPI. So after 4MP or so I think the only benefit is crop-ability. Just my $.02, KKrofft
